Wine is part of many Jewish celebrations. The prayer over "the fruit of the vine" is said at the beginning and end of Shabbat, four times at a Pesach sedar (where it is often in the recipe for the charoset too), Purim, and for most other holidays and life-cycle celebrations.

Note: An overriding rule in Judaism is that customs (and even most laws) may be broken if keeping them risks someone's life or health. So it would be expected that anyone who should not drink wine will substitute another drink, most commonly grape juice.
